Yes, I agree regarding Daniel's 70 weeks. My point was to show that the "weeks" were not literal "weeks" and to compare the way in which that passage is usually approached in contrast with the typical interpretations of other time frames such as the 42 "months" of Revelation.
Also, you are correct to site the 1 John passage. In his 1st and 2nd letters, John gives us definitions for what "antichrist" means. The descriptions that he gives, vary greatly from what typically comes into the mind of most at the mention of the word.
You bring up another important issue: The understanding of terms such as "last days" in scripture as opposed to current understandings. In the NT, it is very clear that the writers believed that the Messiah appeared "in the last days" and events such as those recorded in Acts 2 occurred "in the last days." Again, you have heard that antichrist would come, even now there are many antichrists, thereby you know it is the last times." There are many antichrists and they also have been around for at least 2,000 years.
Since biblically we have been in the "last days" for at least 2,000 years, this should imminsely broaden our prophetic paradigms.
Terry Collins said:
The timing of these events in the context of the end times is indeed an important view point to understanding what is happening and what has already happened and then what will happen. You mention Daniel's 70 weeks for example.
I have seen this length of time used to lead up to end time events, but watching Michael Rood and his chronological bible following the events during the messiah's 70 weeks in the gospels, your quote of Daniel 9:24 takes on a whole new meaning.
If read with a clean slate mentality, the verse looks more like a Messianic road map for Yeshua's mission 2000 years ago, instead of timing of 70 weeks leading up to todays event lineup. Lets look at it again with this in mind and notice first "thy" is the Father and His people and city. The second temple was there in Jerusalem and a remnant of all the people were their too.
Second He came to make an end to sin an atonement for us.
Third the reconciliation was made by Yeshua by expressing His remembrance to the patriarchs and fulfilling His promise to redeem His bride. To gain an inheritance some one has to die. To marry a woman that you have once put away also requires a drastic change.
Third sealing up THE VISION and prophecy, reminds us all that the prophets spoke exclusively about the promised King, where the people of the Messiah's day believed it would be a reincarnated man --King David. When Elohim came through the line of David and put on human flesh, that was beyond there thinking at that time.
Fourth Yeshua ascended to Heaven, conquered death, and became the anointed the most Holy. (Isaiah 52:13)
Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.
1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of Elohim: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
2 Hereby know you the Spirit of Elohim: Every spirit that confesses that Yehoshua HaMoshiach is come in the flesh is of Elohim: 3 And every spirit that confesses not that Yehoshua HaMoshiach is come in the flesh is not of Elohim: and this is that spirit of anti-Moshiach, whereof you have heard that it should come; and even NOW ALREADY IS it in the world.
4 You are of Elohim, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world.
5 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world hears them.
6 We are of Elohim: he that knows Elohim hears us; he that is not of Elohim hears not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error. (Yochanan Alef / 1 John 4:1–6)
Revelation 13 Discussion
As Yeshua said, "You diligently search the Scriptures thinking it will bring you eternal life, but the Scriptures point to Me." Don't let anything take your take your eyes off of the Yeshua, He is haDerech, haEmet re'haChayyim (the Way, the Truth and the Life). His is the ONLY Name that brings Yeshuah (Salvation)...When everything else fails, only faith, hope and love is left, which Love is the greatest of these! Love of ALL is the key, without love, we are nothing. "Seek and you shall find, Ask and it will be given." The darkness will NEVER overcome the Light! Why worry what tomorrow brings, when this "mark" comes, we will recognize it through the Spirit. As it is written, "Sh'ma Yisrael, Adonai Eloheinu, Adonai Echad." We are also One through the Spirit...May Elohim's Shalom be with you ALL...
They searched the Scriptures to make sure that what Paul was saying was true. Which ALL Christians should do, but DO NOT! I am referring to the reasons some search the Scriptures, as many Jews and some Gentiles do thinking there are untold "secrets" to eternal life. WE ALL should do as they did in Berea, so they know that Yeshua is the Truth..We already know that the "mark" is comming, but as to its nature, it will be revealed to us through the Spirit. I concur with you wholeheartedly...Not searching the Scriptures is one of the many reasons why paganism is so rampid throughout Christiandom!
I think it was Irenaeus a disciple of Polycarp, who was a disciple of the Apostle John who believed the mark was going to prevent from buying in stores - not a figurative mark about spiritual platitudes.
Shalom All, I was hoping that James would chime in, but since he hasn't, here is what I have to say. The Beast is SINFUL MAN, and what MARKS sinful man as the Beast, is SIN. All 616 of Yahweh's commands is what NUMBERS or MARKS sinful man AS the Beast. Blessings in The Name, ImAHebrew.
Christianity is the Mark of the Beast. Christianity is a Greco-Roman religion started by Roman Emperor Constantine The Great, not by our HaMashiyach. Christianity is a religion of Torah breaking, paganism, greed, popularity contests, and power hunger.
