There are two recorded instances where animals spoke in the Torah:

  1. Snake in the garden

  2. Balaam’s donkey

The temptation of the snake was for Eve to be like God, which in essence is to steal the glory, or honor of God. Honor or glory in Hebrew is “chaved” כַבֵּד, the gematria is 26.

Based on 2 Peter 2:15, the sin of Balaam was the love of the wages of unrighteousness. To put it another way, the error of Balaam was for reward (Jude 1:11).

The reward is actually not monetary, but honor, as in Num 22:17.

The word honor “chaved” כַבֵּד was mentioned three times (Num 22:15, 22:17, 24:11) in the entire Balaam / Balak episode.

The victim in the first episode is Eve (חַוָּה). This name was given after the sin in Gen 3:20. Based on Jewish tradition, the original name prior to the sin was “Chaiya” חַיָּה. The difference is that of letter Yod and letter Vav. This is the secret of the “descent”, as explained at length before.

To summarize:

There are exactly 26 words spoken by the snake, as follows, from right to left:

26 in this case corresponds to the honor “chaved” כַבֵּד which is the temptation to Eve. 26 is also the gematria of the tetragrammaton.

There are exactly 23 words spoken by the donkey, as follows, from right to left:

23 in this case corresponds to Chaiya חַיָּה, the name of Eve before the sin, or the original state to which Eve is to return.

Chaiya חַיָּה is also the name of the 2nd level of the human soul, an allusion to our final rectified high spiritual stature.

The total words spoken by the animals in the Torah are 26 + 23 = 49.

49 is 7 squared.

What is the significance of number 49 in Torah?

This obviously parallels the 49 days of counting the omer, which is the process of the elevation of the animal soul, as explained at length previously.

If we add the gematria of Eve, snake and donkey, the gematria is 828:

Hebrew

English

Gematria

חַוָּה

Eve

19

נָּחָשׁ

Snake

358

אֲתֹן

Donkey

451

828

The average number of this triplet is: 828 / 3 = 276

And 276 is the triangle number of 23, the gematria of Chaiya חַיָּה, again the name of Eve before the fall, which is the final state to which the rectified bride will return.

If the speaking of the snake is the cause of the fall, it follows that the speaking of the donkey is the antidote of the fall, so that the name of Eve can be restored.

If we analyze the names of Eve and Balaam as follows:

Hebrew

English

Gematria

חַוָּה

Eve

19

בִּלְעָם

Balaam

142

161

161 = 7 x 23

Again alluding to Chaiya חַיָּה, the former name of Eve. This comes to teach us that Balaam is the potential rectification of Eve.

According to Jewish tradition, Balaam is the greatest gentile prophet to the level of Moshe.

Unfortunately, the prophet failed the mission as he was tempted again by personal honor and became the synonym of false teacher as in Rev 2:14.

Moshe’s character trait is meekness (Num 12:2), it follows that Balaam’s downfall was due to his pride (personal honor).

What is the antidote?

The 49 words can be placed in a square as below:

The “red” words in the square above form the four ends of a cross, together with the center point, the total gematria for these five words is 1909.

The “blue” words above form the four corners of the square. The gematria for these four words is 257.

Together, their gematria is 1909 + 257 = 2166.

2166 = 6 x 361

361 is the square of 19, the gematria of Eve, “Chava” חַוָּה, again, pointing to the first bride that was tempted.

The cross symbolizes  the Mashiach who is able to redeem the bride from the four corners of the earth.

The gematria of the four corners is 257, which is the gematria of “aron” אֲרוֹן, the ark of the covenant.

Interestingly, the center point of the square, or the cross, is tov טוֹב, meaning “good”. What appears on the surface as “bad” are actually the concealed “good”.

In the same way, the “cross” was bad (suffering) on the surface, but it’s innate power is to redeem, which is good.

Interestingly, the 13 words that form the “cross” (shaded cells) have a gematria of 3621, which is 71 x 3 x 17.

71 is symmetrical with, or mirror image of 17.

17 is the center point of the cross (as above illustrated), which is good, tov טוֹב.

71 is Alef (א) + Ayin (ע), the “light” within the “vessel”, or the “word” became the “flesh”, as discussed at length before.

Number 3 can be understood as: father, son and the Holy Spirit.

In Jude 1:11, we find another triplet:

Name

Hebrew

Gematria

Soul

Body

Garments

Way of Cain

Cain

קַיִן

160

Nefesh

Limbs

Action

Error of Balaam

Balaam

בִּלְעָם

142

Neshamah

Brain

Intellect

Gainsaying of Korah

Korah

קֹרַח

308

Ruach

Heart

Emotion

610

The sin of Cain is murder, this corresponds to the nefesh, the deeds of man, the physical drives.

The sin of Balaam is seeking personal honor, as discussed above, the intellectual pursuit.

The sin of Korah is dispute against Torah authority which is Moshe. Dispute is by speaking, the function of the ruach, the wind, the expression of the emotions.

What is the rectification? The answer is Torah תּוֹרָה, the gematria is 611, which is the gematria of the three names above plus 1, as a unifying kollel.
