From my Commentary on Mark

7:2-4 And they saw some of his talmidim who were eating bread while their hands were not washed, For all the Judeans and P’rushim, unless they wash their hands do not eat bread because they hold to the tradition of the elders. And they do not eat things from the marketplace unless they are washed. – Mark here is referring to the regulations of n’tilat yadayim (ritual handwashing – literally “lifting the hands”) which are set forth in the Mishna tractate Yadayim (“Hands”). The point of this ritual was that of ritual purity and was not directly related to hygiene. In fact the tractate on this subject in the Mishna indicates that ritual impurity of the hands could result from handling certain books.

And there are many other things that they have received to observe: washing of cups and of pots - The rules and regulations regarding the ritual washing of vessels is recorded in the Mishna in tracte Kelim (“Vessels”).

7:19 even all foods – The HRV follows the Aramaic of the Old Syriac The Greek reads: kaqarizwn panta ta brwmata Various translations have rendered the Greek in various ways. The Greek phrase is translated various ways in various translations:

“purging all meats” (KJV)
“Thus he declared all foods clean” (RSV, NAS, NEB, NWT)
“Thus he declared all foods clean” (NAS)
“In saying this, Jesus declared all foods clean” (NIV)
“In saying this, Jesus declared that all foods are fit to be eaten” (TEV)
“By saying this he showed that every kind of food is kosher.” (Living Bible)

Messianic and “Sacred Name” translators/editions have not aways done much better, they have rendred the Greek as follows:

“By saying this he showed that every kind of food is kosher.” (The Living Scriptures – David Bronstein’s revision of the Living Bible, 1982)
“Thereby purifying all foods” (The Book of Life; Messianic Vision (Sid Roth) 1981)
“Thus he declared all foods ritually clean” (JNT – David Stern, 1989)
“thus purging all foods” (The Scriptures – ISR – 1998)
(phrase omitted) – (The Word of Yahweh – Assembly of Yahweh, 2000)
“making all the okhel [food] tohar [ritually clean]” (The Orthodox Jewish Bible – AFI 1996)

The Aramaic Peshitta was revised to agree with the Greek reading:
“which purifies all food”.
