Why is the Hebrew Roots Movement taking off so strongly?  Does it have any measure of truth?  Here are my thoughts of late.

HaShatan is always trying to stay in control.  HaShatan will allow things to flourish if it suits his interests.  HaShatan will often be in control of both sides of any conflict.  The right hand and the left hand paths, for example.

There is some great truth that the Hebrew Roots Movement is uncovering, but HaShatan is still "in control" of the flow of things.  He keeps a tight reign on "His Kingdom".  HaShatan does not easily let people go from "His Kingdom".

YHWH of course is ultimately in control of all things.  The wheat and the tares continue to grow side by side.  The goats and the sheep mingle together.  One of the biggest lies we believe is that the Kingdom is not available right now.  If you are born again through Yeshua HaMashiach, then you are no longer a "resident" of "this world", you must die to self and be reborn into YHWH's Kingdom.  This is represented in baptism.  We are now residents and representatives of YHWH's Kingdom although we continue to live in "this world".

So back to the Hebrew Roots Movement.  It is based on a lie, although there is truth in it that YHWH wants exposed.  The Truth is that the Torah did not pass away and has not been done away with.  In fact, as residents and representatives of YHWH's Kingdom here on earth, it is our responsibility to uphold our Constitution, which is written in the Torah.

However, "Hebrew Roots" tries to base "Christianity" on "Judaism".  Judaism in it's current form did not even exist until around 200 CE with the writing of the Mishnah.  A huge majority of Judaism was based on and around the existance of a temple (90%?) and once the temple was destroyed, Judaism had to reinvent itself.  So saying that Christianity is based upon the foundation of Judaism has many flaws seeing as modern Judaism did not exist in it's current form until nearly 200 years after the time of Yeshua.

Judaism is based upon the Torah but modern Judaism is largely tradition of men.  But at least Judaism remembers Torah.  While Christianity does away with Torah.  Christianity believes that the church replaces Israel and the Jewish people.  They are both based on error.

Let's make an effort to dig into the biblical roots of the faith and not the Jewish or Hebraic roots.  Let us keep the biblical feasts, the biblical sabbath, the biblical laws, commandments and statutes.

Let Israel come out of paganism and remember her roots and let Judah return to the pure milk of scripture.

Romans 11:16-18  If the first piece of dough is holy, the lump is also; and if the root is holy, the branches are too.  But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive, were grafted in among them and became partaker with them of the rich root of the olive tree, do not be arrogant toward the branches; but if you are arrogant, remember that it is not you who supports the root, but the root supports you.

We must remember that the root IS NOT Judaism.  Yeshua HaMashiach, who is and was the embodiment of Torah, is the root.  The remnant among Judaism (natural) and Christianity (wild) are the branches.  Saying otherwise is tantamount to saying that the church is rightfully built upon the rock of Peter and not the chief cornerstone which is Yeshua HaMashiach.

Ephesians 2:19-22 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God; And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stoneIn whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.

Laura , could you please give me an example of Hebrew Roots Movement theology and Judasim and how they differ and the root of each concept ?    Thank You

Oh my gosh I can't believe I just deleted my post!  I wanted to add what YHWH says on this topic.

Deuteronomy 4:2 You shall not add to the word which I am commanding you, nor take away from it, that you may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.

Essentially the root of both Hebrew Roots and Judaism are Mount Sinai and the written Torah.  The difference comes with how it's lived out.  In Judaism Rambam says "incline after the majority" and gives the Rabbis more authority than the Prophets.  In Hebrew Roots, you find many different theologies.  However Hebrew Roots at it's core is still Christian and their Rabbis are renamed Reverends, both have the root "Rav".  Christianity is based upon the teachings of the early "Church Fathers" and also not upon the Scriptures.

In essence, my complaint is that neither Judaism nor Christianity takes Scripture as it's final authority or primary authority.

I also compared Hebrew Roots to Catholicism.  The danger is that Hebrew Roots may find their "roots" in Judaism or aka "Jewish Roots" and not in Scripture.  As Catholicism has put it's authority in the early "Church fathers" and the Popes and not in Scripture.

I'm sorry I accidentally deleted my longer post!

If their were no Judaism , where would any of your thoughts come from . For that matter your belief as a whole ?

I too am convinced that much of what happens on either side is 'the tradition of men'. When we do 'Bible Study' we mainly just pass on someone's doctrine. I have a heart to teach the Ecclesia, the elect to be able to divide the Word of YHWH for themselves.

Each time I go to a website of a different ministry Yashua always reminds me that 'no-one' has the full picture and to just take from each that which He is directing me to.

HaShatan has indeed sowed seeds everywhere but Wisdom dwells with Prudence and finds out  'witty inventions' (Proverbs 8) Yashua also has Witty Inventions - YHWH is shrewd and crafty - Be as crafty as serpents and as innocent as doves (Matthew 10:16) Real Wisdom which is from the ministration of the Ruach shows us how to navigate amongst the tares in the wheat.

The only way to navigate is to Abide in the Shelter of the Most High daily and to correctly divide the Word.

A good post Laura

For me personally I was really unaware of the extent of this 'movement'. It was Yashua himself that led me to see my own connection with Israel in my family tree which is many generations back. It was also Yashua who gave me a love and understanding for Israel and a natural rejection of replacement theology. On top of that He has led me to look into the feasts and late last year gave me a love for Torah and a desire to understand it better as well as get my brain around the uniqueness of the Hebrew language. So one can see the Hand of YHWH fails not and along the way our Adversary - 'muddies the waters' as always.

I think Yashua smiles when He leads His sheep successfully around all the snares of the Evil one - I see Him laugh and thumb His nose at HaShatan and He says - "I am indeed greater than you! I loose none of those that the Father has placed in my care".

Rick, YHWH in His mercy and providence allowed the tribe of Judah to remember their inheritance and also kept them so that Yeshua could come to us through the line of Judah.  Yeshua scolded the Pharisees many times for keeping to the traditions of men ahead of the commandments of YHWH.  Even to this very day Judah remembers her inheritance and preserves the Torah throughout her generations.  But Judah has built up so many fences around it that in some cases it doesn't look like the original, imho.  And if you go to the Scholars and Scribes of Judaism they openly and freely admit that the authority of the Rabbis is given precedence to everything, superseding even the words of YHWH in Scripture (especially as revealed through the prophets), as Yeshua has also told us.  The Rabbis say that the written Torah is impossible to understand without the oral Torah and thus they give the "oral Torah" precedence.

Jacqueline, like you I was drawn into this movement before really understanding what it was about.  And I'm still learning.  I heard the words "Messianic Movement" and that's about all it took for me.  However, I am shocked by what I have seen so far in the "Messianic Movement".  I see a lot of Christians who want to "embrace" their "Jewish roots".  In other words, it looks like many people are embracing "Hebrew Roots" as merely a "worship style".  How can we do that without true repentance??

I have had to get on my knees and on my face before my creator to beg his forgiveness.  I truly believe Jeremiah 16:19 O LORD, my strength and my stronghold, And my refuge in the day of distress, To You the nations will come From the ends of the earth and say, "Our fathers have inherited nothing but falsehood, Futility and things of no profit.

The nations here being gentiles.  I have had to repent and "come out of Babylon".  I don't understand how others, Messianics, Hebrew Roots, or even Nazarene can come to their understanding without understanding that we as Christians have been raised in a religion based on pagan thoughts, pagan ideas and pagan beliefs, of which we need to repent from and ask for forgiveness, not only for our own sins but also for those of our forefathers down through the generations.  We have taken Yeshua and turned him into Jesus Christ.  We have stripped Christianity of anything remotely "Hebraic".  Yet HaShatan is okay with us "playing Jewish roots" because we feel fine "mingling" it with Christianity and even teaching Jews to forsake Torah!!

The written Torah is only possible to understand properly through the agency of Ruach HaQodesh, which is why Judaism fails to divide Torah properly.

Judaism?  Nazarene Judaism is "Judaism".

Do you mean Rabbinic Judaism?

Comment by Laura Jane Johnson on February 14, 2015 at 1:00am

Yes I mean where rabbinic authority is placed above the Scriptures.  I guess that would be Rabbinic or Orthodox Judaism.  I'm not saying there's no wisdom found in the writings of the sages.  I'm strictly speaking of authority.
