I wanted to answer some of your questions and give you all an update.
As I have said before the classes will be taught online, using the same on-line course software used by most colleges and universities. Your child can log on and take classes on their/your own schedule.
Yes the system will automatically grade assignments and automatically keep a grade book. You will (through your account) have access to your child's grades. You can transfer these into your own grade book for your own long term records if you like. You may also want to print out copies of your child's work, for your own records.
I am hard at work creating classes. I Am currently creating the core classes for 7th Grade, then I will create 8th Grade and so on. We are also strongly considering stepping up getting out 6th Grade by popular demand.
I hope to have Seventh Grade ready by late January or early February, and if all goes well I would like to have 6th thru 8th Grades ready with core material (Math, English, Social Studies and Science) by August (but we will have to see how fast the work goes).
I am very excited about the material! The core for most of the courses will be material drawn from textbooks used in the old one room school houses in the early 20th Century (appropriately revised of course) with embedded audio and video material which creates a mufti-media presentation. This system will truly be the best of both worlds!
We are planning to undercut the competition on the cost, right now we are shooting for a cost around $350 a year, with a set up for monthly subscription for those who cannot afford the yearly rate.
Also there will be no textbooks needed, virtually everything will be online. The ony exception to this will be novels that your children may need for English Literature. Some of these will be old-classics available online for free, but others may be under copyright, and so (like in public school) your child may need you to buy them a copy of a classic novel that is still under copyright, for example Orwell's Animal Farm (or you may want to buy them the printed book just because of the feel of reading a "real book").
We may start making grades available as soon as they are ready, if there is a demand for material in the middle of the school year, or, if there is not, we may simply roll it all out at once in May or August.
Please send us feedback letting us know what grade(s) you are interested in now, and what you would be interested in at the beginning of this next school year.
Also let us know if you would be interested in course material mid-year or only at the beginning of the next school year.
We will keep you all updated.
