Korach – the secret of Aharon’s budding rod

Torah describes 4 stages involved in the budding of Aharon’s rod (Num 17:8):

  1. the rod itself;

  2. it has budded;

  3. it has blossomed;

  4. it has yielded almonds.

The rod is the symbol of authority, leadership. In a family setting, this corresponds to the master of the house, the father. Hence it is written in Num 17:2: …take a rod according to the house of their fathers…

The budding process in essence is the replica of the rod itself, the relationship of budding to the rod is that of a son to a father.

The essence of flower (blossom) is attraction, so that reproduction is possible, to give rise to fruit and seed. This is the mother principle.

Lastly, the almond is the fruit of the labor, the end of the process.

Hence we have the following parallel, in a family setting:

  1. The father – the rod

  2. The mother – the flower

  3. The son – the bud

  4. The daughter – the almond fruit

Which in turn corresponds to the four letters of the tetragrammaton:

  1. Yod – the father

  2. Hey – the mother

  3. Vav – the son

  4. Hey – daughter (or daughter in law)

God is the father, the letter Yod, the source and essence.

Shechinah שְׁכִינָה corresponds to the mother principle, which means Divine Presence, or the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. This is one of the names of God that is feminine, as it ends with the letter Hey which denotes feminine in gender. The essence of feminine is the process of actualizing the potential which is the father. The most used parable is the process of making a baby.  The father “gives” the seed and is done with the process.  The mother “receives” the seed and then starts the process of breaking down the information and building up a new life, for a period of 40 x 7 days. The gematria of Shechinah שְׁכִינָה is 385, which is 7 x 55. 55 is the gematria of bride “kalah” כַּלָּה, which is also the triangle number of 10, the first letter Yod, the father.

While the mother initially is the bride to the father, she eventually actualizes the potential of the father by bringing about a son. The son will eventually marry to his bride and continues with the reproduction cycle.

This is the secret of the number 55 (bride) being the triangle number (actualization) of the potential of 10, the first letter in tetragrammaton.

Vav is the son, as Vav (ו) in form is the descent of the letter Yod(י) according to Kabbalah. At the physical plane, a son is the replica, or extension of the father. In a family setting, a son is the continuation of the name of the father. In the Gospel, the son is the image of the father which is in heaven.

The final Hey is also feminine in gender, this is the bride to the son, the kingdom on earth as in heaven, the assembly of the first fruits, or first born, the redeemed community, the congregation of Israel, the church, or whatever term that suits a particular theology.

It is therefore obvious, that the first Hey of the tetragrammaton is the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in the life of the bride, which is the second Hey of the tetragrammaton, both are feminine in gender.

The triangle number of the first letter Yod (10) is exactly 55, the gematria of the bride “kalah” כַּלָּה, corresponding to the last letter Hey.

In the family of Yaakov, we can find this parallel:

  1. Father – Yaakov

  2. Mother – Leah

  3. Son – six sons

  4. Daughter – Dinah

In Kabbalah, we can find this parallel in sefirot:

  1. Father – wisdom (chachmah)

  2. Mother – understanding (binah)

  3. Son – six emotional attributes (chesed, gevurah, tiferet, netzach, hod, yesod)

  4. Daughter – kingdom (malchut)

The rod in this story is specifically called the “rod of Levi” (Num 17:3). It is not called with the tribal name for any other tribes. This obviously warrants some gematria analysis.

The Hebrew is מַטֵּה לֵוִי, the gematria is exactly 100, which is 10 squared, corresponding to the 1st  letter of the tetragrammaton.

The filling of this phrase is as follows:

מם טית הא למד וו יוד

The gematria of the filling is 611, exactly that of Torah תּוֹרָה.

This comes to teach us that the “secret” of the rod of Levi is Torah, which is the wisdom and authority of the father.

Aharon (Aaron) in Hebrew is אַהֲרֹן, the gematria is 256, which is 16 squared, corresponding to the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th letter of the tetragrammaton.

Together, the squire roots (10 + 16) add up to 26, the gematria of the tetragrammaton.

The Hebrew word for flower (Num 17:8) is “parach” פָּרַח, the gematria is 288. This is a very significant number in Kabbalah which we will not discuss further here as it is a huge subject in its own right. Suffice to say at a very high level, this number is the mystery of the in-gathering of the righteous gentiles from the four corners of the earth. This word was encoded in the 2nd verse in the Torah as follows:

וְרוּחַ אֱלֹהִים מְרַחֶפֶת עַל-פְּנֵי הַמָּיִם

…and the spirit of God hovers over the face of the waters…

The rabbinical interpretation of the “spirit of God” here is the “spirit of the Mashiach”,  who is to redeem the number 288 that are dead. Note the word hovers מְרַחֶפֶת in Hebrew has within it the three letters (red) that add up to 288. The remaining two letters, i.e. the first letter Mem and the last letter Tav spell Met מֵת, meaning death.

The red letter in “hover” above is the permutation of the three letters for the flower in our story.

We may further develop this rabbinical interpretation to mean the death of the Mashiach for the redemption of the 288 composite souls of the righteous gentiles.

Astonishingly, the squared gematria of “the righteous” is exactly the triangle number of 288.

The righteous in Hebrew is tzadik צַדִּיק, the gematria is 204.

204 x 204 = 41616

The triangle number of 288 is 41616.

The formula for calculating triangle number can be found in:

A square number represents consummate perfection and inter-inclusion, whereas the triangle number is the revelation of the concealment.

It is now clear, that the death of the Mashiach is for the redemption of the secret 288, which is the lost sheep of the house of Israel (Matt 15:24). The revelation of this concealment is through the consummate perfection of the righteous, which is the essence of the “salt of the earth, and light of the word” (Matt 5:13-14).

This is exactly the secret of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, the Shechinah, corresponding to the flowering process.

The “budding” in Hebrew is צִיץ, and the almond in Hebrew is שָׁקֵד. These two words are intrinsically connected to the crown of the high priest as in Ex 28:36-39.

The “plate” on which the tetragrammaton is engraved in Hebrew is called Tzitz צִיץ , which is the same word for “bud” in our story today.

The engraved word on the plate is “Holy to YKVK”, which in Hebrew is: קֹדֶשׁ לַיהוָה.

The word “almond” שָׁקֵד has the same three letters of holy, and therefore can permute to spell holy קֹדֶשׁ, thus establishing the connection.

Interestingly, the final letter of the three process: flower (פָּרַח), budding(צִיץ), and the plural form of  almond(שְׁקֵדִים) can spell the word מֵצַח, which means forehead, as in Ex 28:38, specifically referring to the forehead of Aharon on whom the name of God shall be placed.

If we permute the three letters for the word forehead “metzach” מֵצַח, they become “tzemach” צֶמַח, which is the secret name of Mashiach according to Jewish tradition, as in Zechariach 6:12: …behold the man whose name is the BRANCH…

The message is now clear:

The rod that budded is the process of redemption. The rod that represents God the father on the superficial level is an inanimate object, barren and lifeless. This is the first state in creation, without form and void…until the spirit of God hovers upon the face of the waters…

This is the spirit of the Mashiach, or Mashiach through the Holy Spirit, the flowering process, gathers and redeems the lost sheep of the house of Israel from the four corners of the earth.

The son is the bud, the life from death, the tzitz צִיץ on the forehead of the high priest. Interestingly, the gematria of tzitz is 190, which is 10 x 19. 190 is also the triangle number of 19. This is a very rare phenomenon. 19 is the gematria of Eve, or Chava חַוָּה, the quintessential bride. The secret of number 190 is the rectification and elevation of the bride, the secret of bearing fruits, as in the parable in Matt 13:8: …and brought forth fruit, some 100, some 60, some 30…for a total of 190 fold, as studied in length in the past.

The daughter-in-law is the bride to the son, this is the congregation of the rectified bride that is called the righteous, the first fruit, some 100, some 60, some 30…for a total of 190.

A deeper secret is that this four-stage process also corresponds to the four letters of the name of Yeshua (יֵשׁוּעַ) as follows:

  1. Yod(י)

  2. Shin(ש)

  3. Vav(ו)

  4. Ayin(ע)

The Yod obviously is the father;

The Shin is Shechinah שְׁכִינָה, as discussed above, which alludes to the Holy Spirit;

The Vav is the son, or the son of God and son of Man, with two dimensions;

The Ayin is the bride. The gematria of Ayin is 70, corresponding to the 70 souls (Yaakov’s family) that went down to Egypt (Gen 46:27), the 70 nations (Deut 32:8), and the 70 bullock sacrifice on the feast of the tabernacle (Num 29:12-35).

Ayin when spells out in full can mean: eye עֵין. The secret of the Ayin עֵין is the secret of the Mashiach that will only be revealed at the end of days, when people will see God eye to eye, as in Isaiah 52:8:

 כִּי עַיִן בְּעַיִן יִרְאוּ, בְּשׁוּב יְהוָה צִיּוֹן.

For they shall see eye to eye, when YKVK returns to Zion.

There are the three monotheistic religions in the world called the Abrahamic faith, as follows:

The first letter Ayin which is on the right alludes to the Arabs, whose name starts with an Ayin in Hebrew ערבי.

The second letter Yod which is on the center alludes to the Jews, whose name starts with a Yod in Hebrew יְהוּדִי.

The third letter Nun which is on the left alludes to the Christians, whose name starts with a Nun in Hebrew נוֹצְרִי.

The root word for Arab is erev which means mixture;

Yehudi (Jews) in Hebrew means praise;

Notzri (Christian) in Hebrew means the Nazarene.

The problem with the Arabs appears to be too much bloodshed, their rectification is to learn about love, which is the on the right side of the sefirot, the chesed, or the loving kindness. The prototype is Avraham.

The problem with Notzri appears to be too much love, without the understanding of proper restriction, or Torah. Their rectification is to study Torah, and to learn about the strength to hold back, which is on the left side of the sefirot, the gevurah. The prototype is Yitzchak (Isaac).

The problem with Yehudi is that they don’t know who the Mashiach is, which corresponds to the center line of the sefirot, the Yesod and Malchut, the prototype is Yosef and David.

The final rectification will result in the knowledge of God on earth.

130 is the gematria of Ayin, or eye, eye to eye is 2 x 130 = 260, which is 10 x 26, the gematria of the tetragrammaton.

The combined gematriot of Arab (ערבי), Jew (יְהוּדִי) and Christian (נוֹצְרִי) is 282 + 35 + 356 = 673.

Adding number 3 to the total will create a new number: 673 + 3 = 676

676 = 26 x 26

which is the consummate perfection of the name of God.

One may conclude that the deficiency with the number 3 is the process of flowering, budding, and bearing fruit as revealed in Aharon’s rod, which is forever placed in the ark of the covenant.

Let’s summarize in a table below:

name of God

name of Yeshua

Aharon’s rod

perfect family

Yaakov’s family

direction in sefirot

6 sons

6 attributes

In Jewish tradition, the concept of “reduced number” is to omit the 0 of the gematria associated with any given Hebrew letter. Let’s retain the gematria of the first letter Yod, which is 10, the father, and calculate the “reduced number” of the remaining three letters in the name of Yeshua as follows:

Yod = 10;

Shin = 300, the reduced number is 3;

Vav = 6, the reduced number is 6;

Ayin = 70, the reduced number is 7:

10 + 3 + 6 + 7 = 26, exactly the gematria of the tetragrammaton.

If we go one step further and reduce the father principle from 10 to 1, the reduced gematria for Yeshua is 17, the gematria of tov טוֹב, good, which is associated with “light” in its first appearance in Torah:

וַיַּרְא אֱלֹהִים אֶת-הָאוֹר, כִּי טוֹב;

And God saw the light, and it was good…(Gen 1:4)

To develop further on the triplets discussed above, there are three metals used in the construction of the tabernacle, which is the body of the believers, hence we can establish the following parallels:

the actors in the primordial sin

the redemption process

the construction of the tabernacle

the three levels of soul within the body

Three garments of man

bearing fruit

The lowest level of creation is the physical world, and only in this world is physical action possible. This is the  level of “salt of the earth, light of the world”.

To be the “light of the world” is to bear good fruits, to do good works, to benefit others, the attribute of giving, as light emanates.

To be the “salt of the earth” is to help other bear good fruits and do good work, the attribute of receiving, so that the giving by others is possible. The essence of salt is to bring out the flavor (good) of others (food), while the salt itself is not the food (flavor). This is the attribute of restriction (of self).

To counter-act the will to do good deeds, there has to be a “nefesh”, the animal drive, which is in essence the temptation of the snake, corresponding to the copper, as snake in Hebrew is Nachash נָּחָשׁ, which has the same root as copper Nechoshet נְחֹשֶׁת.

Hence the copper was used to construct the alter of sacrifice, in order to kill the “animal” that’s within each one of us. Hence it is written…to offer yourself as a burnt offering before God…

This is the first step once you walk into the tabernacle.

The silver was used to construct the pillars in the tabernacle. The pillar serves as the intermediate between the sockets (made of copper) the physical and tabernacle which denotes the spiritual. In a similar way, the spirit within the body is the intermediate between body the nefesh and mind the neshamah.

In the human experience, the speech reconciles the thoughts and the actions, which are opposite of each other. How many times do we see a person actually does what he says, let alone what he means? He reconciles the difficulty by explanation, the function of his speech. In anatomy, the mouth is between the brain and the limbs.

The essence of silver is the money of redemption; this corresponds to the ruach, the spirit, the emotion in human soul that responds to the call of God, or Eve in the primordial sin, that responded to the call of the Snake, unfortunately.

The gold was used to construct the vessels within the tabernacle. This corresponds to Adam the first man, and Mashiach the final man, or the intellect in the human soul.

The proper sequence is: Adam rules over Eve, and Eve rules over the Snake, or in human experience, the mind rules over emotion, and emotion rules over action, or in the descending order of value: gold over silver, silver over copper, or in the budding process: first the budding, then the flowering, lastly the fruit.

The tragedy in the garden was exactly the opposite: the Snake ruled over Eve, and Eve ruled over Adam.

Or, in practical term in our everyday life, our physical drives rule over our emotions, and in an attempt to gratify our physical drives, our emotions (heart) have perverted the truth and hijacked our higher intellect to cooperate, justify, and glorify.

Hence the rectification is to have Adam rules over Eve, and Eve rules over the Snake.

Mashiach rules over the Bride, and the Bride rules over the temptations that are within.

The gematria of budding, flowering and almond in this week’s Torah portion is 932, which is exactly the same gematria of the three metals used in the construction of the tabernacle as follows:

the redemption process

the construction of the tabernacle

932 is also the gematria of the “tree of knowledge of good and evil”, which is associated with the primordial sin.

עֵץ הַדַּעַת טוֹב וָרָע

etz hada’at tov va’ra

God created repentance even before the sin was committed, hence the general principal is that the antidote is within the poison itself.

932 = 233 x 4

233 is the gematria of “tree of life”, etz hachaim עֵץ הַחַיִּים.

The multiplier 4 in this case corresponds to the 4-stage process: the rod (father), the budding (son), the flowering (holy spirit), and the fruit (good deeds), as the rectification for the primordial sin.

233, the gematria of “tree of life”, is exactly the 52nd prime number, if 1 is counted as the first prime number. 52 is the gematria of the son בֵּן. The secret of redemption and rectification is with the only begotten son.
