Now it Can Finally be Revealed:
Who are the King of the North and the King of the South?

By James Trimm

Scripture tells us that in the last days Israel will be caught in the midst of a conflict between the “King of the North” and the “King of the South” (Dan. 11 & 12). In the past some interpreters have identified the invasion of Israel by the “King of the North” in Daniel 11 with the invasion by “Gog and Magog” in Ezekiel 38 (and thus with Russia). However the Book of Revelation seems to place the “Gog and Magog” invasion at the end of the Millennium (Rev. 20:7-9). So if the “King of the North” is not Russia, then who is it? The answer may be much closer to home.

In ancient times the Middle East was dominated by two great empires. The first was that of Mesopotamia which was sustained by the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. The second was the Egyptian, sustained by the Nile river. Israel was a small strip of land in between the two empires. Throughout its history, Israel was caught in the crossfire and traded back and forth in conflicts between the two powers.

Following the break up of the Empire of Alexander the Great, the Greek Empire was divided into four Empires (Dan. 11:3-4). Two of these were the Seleucid Empire of Syria in the North and the Ptolemaic Empire of the Egypt in the South. Commentaries on Daniel universally accept that Dan. 11:5-20 describe the conflicts between these two powers and that Dan. 11:21-35 describes the career of Antiochus Epiphanies, a leader of the Seleucid Empire. Many scholars see Daniel 11:36f as speaking of the last days Anti-Christ and only partly to Antiochus Epiphanies.

Biblical prophecy seems to indicate a double fulfillment of many parts of the prophecy of Daniel 11 & 12. A key event is the “abomination of desolation” mentioned three times in Daniel (Dan. 9:27; 11:31 & 12:11) which is committed by the King of the North. On one level this event was fulfilled by Antiochus Epiphanies when he desecrated the Temple (see 1Macc. 1:41-64 & 2Macc. 6:1-6) yet on another level it is still yet to be fulfilled by the Torah-less Anti-Messiah (Mt. 24:15 = Mk. 13:14; 2Thes. 2:1-4). Note that the last days “beast” is closely tied to “Babylon” (Rev. 17-18) and in Is. 13 & 14 the “abomination of desolation” is ascribed to the “King of Babylon”.

The ancient Hebrews identified Antiochus Epiphanies and his Seleucid Empire allegorically with Nebuchadnezzar and his Babylonian Kingdom. They recognized that both the names “Antiochus Epiphanies” and “Nebuchadnezzar” both have a numerical value of 423 in Hebrew. In the apocryphal book of Judith the name “Nebuchadnezzar” is used as code for “Antiochus Epiphanies”.

The call to come out of Babylon appears several times in Scripture (Is. 48:20; 52:11; Jer. 50:8; 51:6, 45; 2Cor. 6:14-18; Rev. 18:4) but when this warning is given in Zech. 2:6, 7 it says “come forth, and flee from the land of the north… that dwell with the daughter of Babylon.” There can be little doubt that the “north” in the conflict between the north and the South in Daniel 11 is last days Babylon.

So if the north is last days Babylon, who I this last days Babylon?

14 And be not yokefellows to those who do not believe, for what fellowship has righteousness with Torah-less-ness? Or what communion has light with darkness?
15 Or what agreement has the Messiah with HaSatan? Or what part has he who believes with him who does not believe?
16 And what unity has the Temple of Eloah with shadim? But you are the Temple of the living Eloah, as it is said, I will dwell with them, and I will walk with them, and I will be their Eloah, and they will be my people.
17 Because of this, Go out from among them and be separated from them, said YHWH, and do not come near the unclean, and I will receive you,
18 and I will be to you a Father and you will be sons and daughters to me, says the Almighty, YHWH.

(2Cor. 6:14-18)

Here Paul creates an allegory from the Torah command against yoking different kinds of animals together. He then gives various sets of diametricly opposed things which generally are associated with Torah vs. Torahlessness. The word translated "unrighteousness" in the KJV text of 2Cor. 6:14 is actually ANOMIA (without Torah).

Next Paul compares light with darkness. Throughout the New Testament there are extended metaphores revolving around light and darkness. Believers are called "sons of light" (Lk. 16:8; Jn. 12:36; Eph. 5:8; 1Thes. 5:5). The full armour of God is also called the "armour of light" (Rom. 13:12). The New Testament speaks of those "who walk in darkness" (Jn. 8:12; 12:35).

But what does this idiomatic use of the terms light and darkness mean? For the answer let us turn to the Tanak:

For the commandment is a lamp;
and the Torah is light...
(Prov. 6:23)

So according to the Tanak the Torah is a light for our paths. Those that walk in the Torah walk in the light. This is why the New Testament speaks of those who walk in darkness (Jn. 8:12; 12:35; 1Jn. 1:6; 2:11). These are those who do not walk by the light of Torah. Of these John writes:

And if we say that we have fellowship with him,
and walk in darkness,
we are liars and we do not walk in truth.
(1Jn. 1:6)

Notice that John equates "walking in truth" with walking in the light.
Scripture tells us "the Torah is truth" (Ps. 119:142) thus if "walking in the light" means "walking in truth" then both phrases refer to walking in the Torah. This takes us back to our passages from the Tanak given above. John also confirms this by writing the parallel statements:

...walking in truth.
...walk according to his commandments.
(2Jn. 1:4, 6)

So 2Cor. 6:14 refers to Torah as "light" and Torahlessness as "darkness".

Then 2Cor. 6:15 compares those that are faithful to those that are not faithful. Remember the "way of faith" is the Torah:

Remove the false way from me,
and graciously grant me your Torah.
I have chosen the way of faith;
I have placed your ordinances before me.
(Psalm 119:29-30)

Another clue to the identity of last days Babylon are Babylonian customs and practices. It has long been documented that many Christian customs and practices such as Sunday Worship, Christmas, Easter and steeples are of Babylonian origin. Clearly the identity of last days Babylon is Christendom. It is the Christian world that have become heirs to the Greek Hellenistic culture which Antiochus Epiphanies sought to force on Israel.

Joel 2:20 also tells us about this invasion of Jerusalem by “the north” Perhaps there are clues in the text of Joel 2 as to the identity of “the north”:

Blow you the trumpet in Zion,
and sound an alarm in my holy mountain...
They shall run to and fro in the city;
they shall run upon the wall...
And the LORD shall utter his voice before his army...
(Joel 2:1, 9, 11)

Now that is amazing! Everyone knows these words. These are the lyrics to one of the most popular Christian songs! They ADMIT to being the army of the King of the North which invades Jerusalem! Could the Christian world send peace keeping troops into Israel? Could they be enforcing a peace deal brokered by the King of the North? Perhaps a “covenant” the King of the North will broker (see Dan. 9:27).

Now the King of the North has an adversary. Some have wrongly supposed that the last days anti-Messiah will dominate the entire world, but this is not true. While it is true that he will have a United Nations army made up of “all nations” at his disposal (Zech. 14:2) he has an adversary in the King of the South. For the King of the North does not control “Edom, and Moab, and the children of Ammon.” (Dan. 11:41) These are the lands of the West Bank and modern Jordan and represent the Islamic World. This last days entity is called “Mount Seir” in Ezekiel 35. Mount Seir hates “two nations” (Ezek. 35:10) Israel and the United States (which Radical Muslims call “little Satan and Big Satan”).

The prophetic future for Israel (and the stage for this has already been set) is to be caught in the middle of the conflict between the Christian World and the Islamic World. Only the return of Messiah, the prince of peace, will finally bring about Peace in the Middle East.

The Gog of Revelation is leading a whole world revolt against the rule of King Yeshua. The Gog of Ezekiel 38 and 39 is only leading Russia, the Central Asian nations and a few more Muslim nations. So we can conclude that the Scriptures are predicting two different wars and two different leaders. Also notice Jesus nor the Antichrist are mentioned by Ezekiel.

Dear brother James I also believe the 10 nations are the 10 regions of the world that will make up the world after the Ezekiel war led by the EU-UN Revived Roman Empire

The Ezekiel 38 and 39 war will weaken Russia and the US so as to give rise to Europe and the UN and they will form a 10 region world government (the Revived Roman Empire). Don't let the symbol of Babylon fool you. Babylon is the early Messianic Community's symbol of Rome -- remember the Ninth of Av.

I do believe that the present day Rome IS the U.S. even with the symbolic eagle. As for the 10 regions that are divided, have you looked at a map of the U.S. it was divided into 10 regions back in the 80's I believe, because OK citizens decided to not adhere to S.S. or drivers liscences in reference to a state law that did not require it. So, invisible state lines were removed and federal regions were installed which are 10 with 10 individuals in charge. Not too many people know this or even question why the U.S. map is divided into 10 regions. Watchmen need to observe Obama and his actions carefully in the future. Didn't McCain refer to him as the Messiah in some campaign ads? Jokingly of course. Don't get me wrong I love my country just not the Beast power of the government. "If you are not with us then you're against us", remember those famous words. The office of president is similar to the office of the Pope, it's the position not the person who has the power.

I suppose my comment on "loving my country" was somewhat overstated, but Big Brother is "always" watching...especially me it seems. The government enjoys locking me out of sites from overseas because of my anti-government sentiments. As prophecied in the coming of apostasy, this country's generation are lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, without self control, brutal, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God...2 Tim. 3:1-4. I do not go out much, just for necessities because of the culture here. I just meant that I am not complaining about where the Lord has placed me in this world because I know that other females have it worse in other parts of the world today. I enjoy being educated and being allowed to be ever learning. Thank you for your comment and friendship, Shalom.

Just wait until I discuss the "Rapture theory"...and "The Mystery of the Trinity". Thanks, Paula
