Torah: What Is It Good For?
26:1 And there was a scarcity of food in the land, besides the first scarcity of food which was in the days of Abraham. And Yitsḥaq went to Aḇimeleḵ, sovereign of the Philistines, in Gerar. And יהוה appeared to him and said, “Do not go down to Mitsrayim, live in the land which I command you. “Sojourn in this land. And I shall be with you and bless you, for I give all these lands to you and your seed. And I shall establish the oath which I swore to Aḇraham your father. “And I shall increase your seed like the stars of the heavens, and I shall give all these lands to your seed. And in your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed,
Gen 26:5 because Aḇraham obeyed My voice and guarded My Charge: My commands, My laws, and My Torot1.” Footnote: 1Torot - plural of Torah, teaching
The first thing I want you to observe Is the time in which we are speaking. We are many years from here to the Commandments. We shall at some point come to understand The relationship of Beresheet 26 (not necessarily time frame) to Sh'mot (Exodus) 20, where the So-called ten commandments were given.
I want to pause a moment to remind us that Torah does not really mean Law, but in all actuality in the Hebrew language is “instruction”.
And this is only the beginning of America's misunderstanding of the first five books; called the Torah and the TaNaK; all of the writings from Beresheet (Genesis) to 2 Divrei HaYamim ( in the original order: 2 Chronicles ) or Mal'akhi ( Malachi ) in the distorted order.
Go to Sh'mot (Exodus). Chapter 24 and verse 12
To make a point I am, somewhat getting off track. Let's get back on track.
Exodus 24 and verse 12: And יהוה said to Mosheh, “Come up to Me on the mountain and be there, while I give you tablets of stone, and the Torah and the command which I have written, to teach them.”
Notice that “the”, so-called “Law” is referred to as a command to TEACH THEM. These are instructions on how to live. Yahweh is instructing Mosheh (Moses) on how they [we] should behave toward Yahweh and towards each other.
Vayikra or Leviticus 26: 46 = These are the laws and the right-rulings and the Torot1 which יהוה made between Himself and the children of Yisra’ĕl on Mount Sinai by the hand of Mosheh. Footnote: 1Torot - plural of Torah, teaching.
I pressing the point that these are teachings.
B'midbar 15:16 Numbers. ‘One Torah and one right-ruling is for you and for the stranger who sojourns with you.’ ”
Everyone, who joins with the Yahweh and His people; including gentiles receive the same instruction. If a gentile joins with the Israelites they are treated as if they were born into the “family”.
D'varim 31:11 & 12 Deuteronomy when all Yisra’ĕl comes to appear before יהוה your Elohim in the place which He chooses, read this Torah before all Yisra’ĕl in their hearing. “Assemble the people, the men and the women and the little ones, and your sojourner who is within your gates, so that they hear, and so that they learn to fear יהוה your Elohim and guard to do all the Words of this Torah.
Here we are told to assemble for the reading of the Torah,
“Assemble the people, the men and the women and the little ones, and your sojourner who is within your gates, so that they hear, and so that they learn to fear יהוה your Elohim and guard to do all the Words of this Torah.”
We are told to “assemble” everyone from the men, women, children; to those who are within our gates. And the purpose is?...
… to hear (hear what?), … to fear (Who?), ...guard to do what?
Is anyone catching on yet?
Is there anyone here who does not see that the American people have lost their way? Is there anyone that does not see the drought in this land and the need for Living water; namely the Torah? How can we tell, if we, who should be guarding to do the Torah, have veered from the instructions of Yahweh, if we are not actively involved in teaching it? How are we going to teach what we don't know? How are we going to live what we don't teach?
Okay let's change gears.
Yesha'yahu 2:3 Isaiah And many peoples shall come and say, “Come, and let us go up to the mountain of יהוה, to the House of the Elohim of Yaʽaqoḇ, and let Him teach1 us His ways1, and let us walk in His paths1, for out of Tsiyon comes forth the Torah1, and the Word1 of יהוה from Yerushalayim.” Footnote: 1His ways, His paths, the teaching and the Word of יהוה are used synonymously.
B'midbar 31:26 Deuteronomy“Take this Book of the Torah, and you shall place it beside the ark of the covenant of יהוה your Elohim, and it shall be there as a witness against you
Malachi 2:9 Mal'akhi “And I also, I shall make you despised and low before all the people, because you are not guarding My ways, and are showing partiality in the Torah.”
Go to... Torah What Is It Good For
This is the theme song for the majority of Sunday Christianity:
Those who say they are Torah observant. We who say we are Torah observant... and how much time a week do we guard to do the Torah? How can we say we “guard to do the Torah”,when outside of work and sleep we still spend more time with amusement than the joy of studying the Torah?
Have we, unknowingly, by our actions and even words, joined those who have entertained the song War; replacing War with Torah.
Mattitiyahu 5:17 “Do not think that I came to destroy the Torah or the Prophets.1 I did not come to destroy but to complete. (Footnote: 1The Law and the Prophets is a term used for the pre-Messianic Scriptures). Mat 5:18 “For truly, I say to you, till the heaven and the earth pass away, one jot or one tittle shall by no means pass from the Torah till all be done.(1 Footnote: 1Lk. 16:17. )
Is all done? What excuse is there? Everywhere in scripture, rightly dividing the Word (Torah) and we see that the Torah is yet to be complete. Is all done?
Let's look at another one: Mattitiyahu 7:12 “Therefore, whatever you wish men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Torah and the Prophets.
Hello!? Do people teach this has been done away with? YES! If they teach the Torah is not for today.
Mattitiyahu 23:23 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you tithe the mint and the anise and the cumin,1 and have neglected the weightier matters of the Torah: the right-ruling and the compassion and the belief. These need to have been done, without neglecting the others. Footnote:1The wording in Lk. 11:42 is somewhat different.
Has “Right ruling”, “compassion”, and “belief in Yahweh/Yahshua” been done away with? NO!
Are we in position to explain and teach the Torah to the influx of people who realize, as I did, that I am missing something. What I am missing is the right understanding of the Torah. All understanding is void without understanding the Torah. I am telling you that the Torah is the most important scripture to know for the understanding of all the scriptures.
I want to close with the original words in the song. But, I want all of us to understand that until we, the people of the Messiah, learn the Torah, guard to do the Torah, and teach the Torah we will unwittingly join those who shall exemplify the “Torah”, What Is It Good For?
'War" by the Bruce Springsteen band
As a watchman, a watchman in Cisco, and more important a servant of Yahshua: unless we put our minds and hearts into learning the Torah, then guard to do the Torah, so that we can teach the Torah, we will be denying and out-right disobeying Yahweh. I am only delivering the Word of Yahweh. We are at war with principalities and beings in high places. ONLY the Torah of Yahweh is the answer.
Is your heart in the Torah … then we must go to war. We must war for the Torah, we must war in the Torah and we must war by the Torah. The Torah is not our salvation; Yahshua who is the Torah in the flesh: by believing in Him is our salvation complete..
Any and all comments are welcome.
