The book of Ruth is always read on Shavuot, at the conclusion of the 49 days counting of omer.

The “famine” in the land is the lack of bread, which is Torah (Amos 8:11).

Elimelch (אֱלִימֶלֶךְ) means “my God is King”. Naomi (נָעֳמִי) means “my delight”, Mahlon (מַחְלוֹן) means “sickness”, and Chilion (כִלְיוֹן) means “destruction”.

According to Jewish tradition, this is a noble family. They chose to leave the land because they were troubled with giving to the poor during the famine. Giving is Chesed (חֶסֶד), which was where they have failed.

The family left Beth-Lechem (בֵּית-לֶחֶם) and descended to Moab (מוֹאָב).

At the spiritual level, this is the lack of teaching Torah to others.

Beth-Lechem means “house of bread”, the gematria is 490. The bread alludes to Torah, from where the Mashiach will eventually be born, who is the living Word of God. 490 = 49 x 10, this is the completion of the 49 days of omer counting for the receiving of Torah.

Moab means “from my father”, the gematria is 49. Moab alludes to the 49 levels of “uncleanness” in exile, as Moab is the descendents of an incest relationship between Lot and his daughter, the lowest of the low, from which point the 49 days is counted as an elevation process.

The difference in gematria between Beth-Lechem (490) and Moab (49) is: 490 – 49 = 441, which is exactly the gematria of truth “emet” אֱמֶת.

וְתוֹרָתְךָ אֱמֶת and your Torah is truth (Psalm 119:142).

It is now clear that what connects exile and redemption is Torah. For exile is the result of forsaking Torah, and redemption is completed when Torah is accepted anew, written in the heart.

The family’s exile from the level of 490, the highest of the high, to the level of 49, the lowest of the low, were completed by the 10 years sojourning in the land (Ruth 1:4), from that point on, the redemption process is started.

490 = 49 x 10.

Ruth (רוּת) is cognate to רִתוּי, a rabbinical term for “mercy”. Ruth extended her loving kindness to her mother-in-law. This is the act of giving, Chesed, that rectified what had caused the family’s downfall.

The entire story is focused between Pesach and Shavuot, during which the omer is counted for 49 days.

Pesach is the harvest of barley, and Shavuot is the harvest of wheat (Ruth 2:23).

The return to the land started at the barley harvest(Ruth 1:22), which is the time of redemption, the Pesach.

The betrothal between Ruth and Boaz happened at the wheat harvest, the time of receiving the Torah, Shavuot.

In the same manner, at the individual level, we are saved because of the blood of Pesach lamb, but we have not entered into the marriage covenant until we have willingly accepted the Torah in our heart.

Shavuot is both the date of birth and death for King David. The Book of Ruth is about establishing  the Davidic line through which Mashiach will come.

The gematria of Ruth (רוּת) is 606. The gematria of David (דָּוִד) is 14. The combined gematriot is 620, the gematria of crown, keter (כֶּתֶר), the crowning of the Mashiach.

If Ruth is the loving kindness (Chesed), then Boaz is the might (Gevurah), paralleling the right and left side of the sefirot.

Boaz (בֹּעַז) means: in might, strength. What is his “strength” that merited him as the forefather of Mashiach?

Contrary to Chesed which is giving, Gevurah (גְּבוּרָה) is the strength to hold back. He that refrains from doing evil is the most powerful.

The Ruth-Boaz story parallels their forefathers in a similar setting:

Lot and his daughter

Yehuda and Tamar

Boaz and Ruth

Lot lost his two son-in-laws and his spouse

Yehuda lost his two sons and his spouse

Naomi lost her two sons and her spouse

Lot and his daughters are alone in the cave, under the influence of wine

Yehuda and his dauther-in-law are alone in the field

Boaz and Ruth are alone on the threshing floor, under the influence of wine

The difference is how they have acted. Lot and Yehuda followed the Nefesh, the physical drives. Where their ancestors had failed, that’s precisely where Boaz and Ruth have acted differently as a rectification.

They waited until the next day.

At that critical moment, Boaz said: לִינִי הַלַּיְלָה tarry this night (Ruth 3:13). There is an oversized “nun” in this verse, why?

Letter nun alludes to that which is fallen, but is raised up by God as in Psalm 145, which is arranged in the order of the 22 letters but the 14th letter Nun is purposefully omitted. Nun is the 14th letter with a gematria of 50.

The mystery of number 50 to 49 is that of number 8 to number 7 as follows:

50 = 7 x 7 + 1

8 = 7 + 1

Number 6 is physicality; the number of man at the level of animal, hence 666 is the number of the beast.

Number 8 is spirituality; the number of resurrection of dead, the new heaven and new earth.

Number 7 is the intermediate connecting the physicality and spirituality, having an element of both physicality and spirituality.

In a cube, there are 6 sides, the full expression of physicality. Number 7 is the invisible center point holding all 6 sides together. Number 8 corresponds to the 8 points of the cube representing infinity. Accidentally, a laid down figure 8 ( ) is the symbol for infinity.

Here is an original insight on the oversized nun:

The gematria of the word לִינִי is 100. The oversized nun is “pregnant” with her fillings, which is a vav and a nun, the gematria is 56, hence the hidden gematria of this oversized nun is 156, the gematria of Yosef יוֹסֵף.

Where Yehuda had succumbed to the physical drives, is exactly where Yosef had prevailed, when he fled from Potiphar’s wife.

Yosef (יוֹסֵף)’s gematria is 156, which is 26 x 6. Yosef had reigned over the power of number 6, the physicality.

Yitzchak(יִצְחָק)’s gematria is 208, which is 26 x 8. 8 is the number of spirituality. Yitzchak was offered as a burnt sacrifice and was resurrected from dead, whether figuratively or literally is irrelevant.

Yaakov (יַעֲקֹב)’s gematria is 182, which is 26 x 7. 7 is the intermediate that connects 6 and 8. Yaakov is synonymous with Torah as he dwells in the tent studying Torah.

182 is exactly the average number of the three names: (156 + 182 + 208) / 3 = 182.

This comes to teach us that Torah study is what rectifies the physicality and connects to infinity.

Amazingly, the last letters of the three names are: Peh, Kuf, and Beit, the gematria is 182, exactly that of Yaakov.

Hence after the night, the gift Boaz gave to Ruth is 6 measures of barley (Ruth 3:15). Why not 7, why not 8? Barley is animal fodder, and 6 is the number of physicality, the animal drives. The hinted message is that they have both reigned over the physicality.

With respect to Moab, the 49th level of uncleanness, there is still hope, as it has not fallen to the 50th level of no return.

On the other side of the spectrum, the 49th level of human endeavor is the 49 days of counting omer, but the final 50 is only possible by the grace of God.

David is the epitome of that which is fallen, due to his relationship with Batsheva, but was raised up by God. The gematria of David(דָּוִד)  is 14, the ordinal number of nun.

Mashiach has also fallen (dead) for his bride, but was raised up from dead by God.

David is the 7th son, Batsheva (בַּת-שֶׁבַע) in Hebrew means the 7th daughter. 7 + 7 = 14, the gematria of David’s name.

Their son Solomon called himself the preacher, which in Hebrew is קֹהֶלֶת, which literally means “congregation”, or “church”.

God commanded Eve to “cleave” to Adam, the Hebrew word is דָבַק. Exactly the same word was used for Ruth and Naomi (Ruth 1:14).

It is taught by the rabbis, that the word for cleave, or davak (דָבַק), is the acronym for David, Batshava, and Kohelet, which is Solomon.

The final letters of the three names spell da’at, knowledge, which in Hebrew is דַּעַת. Knowledge is connection, or “cleave”, which is also an euphemism for martial relationship in Torah, as in “Adam knew his wife…”.

It follows that David is the prototype of Mashiach, Batsheva is the Bride, and Solomon is the fruit of the union, which is the “congregation” of the believers.

The combined gematriot for this family (דָּוִד+בַּת-שֶׁבַע+קֹהֶלֶת) is 1323, the average number is 441, the gematria of truth, אֱמֶת.

Solomon or the “church”, or “congregation” is the fruit of this union which is love. The gematria of Kohelet is 535, exactly the filling of love:

Love in Hebrew is אַהֲבָה, the filling is: אלף הא בית הא

Astonishingly, this relationship is also encoded in the first word of the Torah, Bereshit בְּרֵאשִׁית, the gematria is 913.

Here is my interpretation of the oversized Beit in the first word, to apply our method for the oversized nun as above.

The filling of Beit ב is בֵּית.

By revealing the filling, the additional gematria is 410.

913 + 410 = 1323

Exactly the gematria of David, Batsheva and Kohelet, or Mashiach, Bride, and the Assembly.

There are three women involved in completing the Messianic line, and every one of them were despised at their time:

  1. Tamar (תָּמָר). This is the starting point with Yehuda. Tamar means the date palm tree in the desert. This is sweetness from the bitterness. Her life was bitterness and barrenness, like that of the desert, and was taken as a harlot, until she conceives the seed of Mashiach. She literally transforms the bitterness into sweetness. The last two letters of her name is Mar מָר, which means bitterness.

  2. Ruth (רוּת). This is the midpoint of the Messianic line. She has within her name two letters of Tamar, i.e. Resh and Tav.  Being a descendant of Moab, her bitterness is the illicit relationship between Lot and his daughter.

  3. Miriam (מִרְיָם). This is the completion of the Messianic line. Again Miriam has within her name the bitterness of Tamar, i.e. letter Mem and Resh (מָר), which means bitterness. Her bitterness was that of virgin birth, which is perceived as “adultery” by the unbelievers.

Their gematriot is: 640 + 606 + 290 = 1536

1536 / 3 = 512, which means 512 is the average number for the three names.

512 is number 8 to the 3rd power.

Number 8 is the number of spirituality, the next world, Olam HaBa (עוֹלָם הַבָּא), literally the world to come. “HaBa” has a gematria of 8. This is the number of Mashiach at the divine level.

In Ruth 3:18, it is written: these are the generation (of Pharez)…

וְאֵלֶּה תּוֹלְדוֹת

There are many verses in the Hebrew Bible that start with the familiar “these are the generation of…”, but this is the only verse that appears in the entire Hebrew Bible that starts with a Vav, and with the two vav’s spelled out full in Toldot תּוֹלְדוֹת which means generation or genealogy.

And of course the gematria is exactly 888, the number of the Mashiach.

There are exactly 8 verses in the Book of Ruth that starts without the letter Vav, as follows:

Chapter 1: 9, 12, 13, 17, 21;

Chapter 2: 9, 12;

Chapter 3: 13

Of the 85 verses of the Book of Ruth, 79 verses start with a Vav, and 8 verses without a vav. This is quite phenomenal.

79 is the gematria of Boaz (בֹּעַז), it then follows that number 8 is alluding to Ruth, who connects the line of Mashiach.

What is the significant of number 1536, being the sum of these three women?

As noted by the rabbis, the Messianic line is made up of unorthodox relationships.

  1. Lot and his daughter, this is incest.

  2. Yehuda and Tamar, this is not in strict accordance with the Levirate law, as Yehuda is not the brother of her deceased husband.

  3. Boaz and Ruth, again, Boaz is only a close relative, not a brother to the deceased husband of Ruth.

  4. Finally, Miriam, considered as the most unorthodox, being impregnated by the Holy Spirit.

This comes to teach us that the revelation of Mashiach is always from that which is expected the least, so as to defeat logic.

The Mashiach of YKVK  (מָּשִׁיחַ יְהוָה) has a gematria of 384, multiplied by the 4 cases above

384 x 4 = 1536

Exactly the sum of the three women that were named with a parallel story in the Bible.

1536 is also the gematria of the four names below that are the essence of the entire Torah:

YKVK יְהוָה, gematria is 26;

Torah תּוֹרָה, gematria if 611;

Mashiach מָּשִׁיחַ, gematria is 358;

Israel יִשְׂרָאֵל, gematria is 541;

26 + 611 + 358 + 541 = 1536.

Finally, Miriam (מִרְיָם) and the Holy Spirit (רוּחַ הַקֹּדֶשׁ) has gematria of 913, exactly that of the first word of Torah, Bereshit (בְּרֵאשִׁית), in the beginning.

“I am the beginning, I am the end”…
