Baruch atah YHVH Elohenu Melech ha-olam, asher kidshanu b’mitzvohtav vetzi vonu l’chad leek ner, shel Shabbat. Amayn.
Blessed are you, O יהוה (YHVH) our God, King of the Universe, who has sanctified us by His commandments and has commanded us to be a light to nations and has given us Yeshua the Messiah, the Light of the World. Amen
THE TORAH PORTION (BIBLE STUDY) THIS SHABBAT:
VAYESHEV (And He Settled)
TORAH : BERESHITH (Genesis) 37:1 - 40:23
HAFTARAH (Prophets & The Writings) : AMOS 2:6-3:8
B'RIT CHADASHA (Gospel) : MATTHEW 1:18-25
YOSEF (JOSEPH) WAS A TYPE OF MASHIACH (MESSIAH), WHO'S LIFE POINTED TO SHILOH (The One In Whom The Kingdom Was Intended For), YESHUA HAMASHIACH (JESUS THE MESSIAH).
We see is Bereshith that Joseph purchased the people and their land for Pharaoh in order to save them from the death of starvation, due to a famine, which was sweeping through the land. The people become slaves or servants to Yosef and Pharaoh, as a was to show their appreciation for their lives being saved from death.
Bereshith (Genesis) 47:23 Then Joseph said to the people, ***“Behold, I have bought you and your land today for Pharaoh.*** Here is seed for you, so that you can sow the land. 24 During the harvest you must give a fifth part to Pharaoh and four-fifths will be for you, for seed for the field and for your food, and for those in your houses, and for food for your little ones.” 25 ***“You’ve saved our lives,” they said. ***“We find favor in the eyes of my lord, and we’ll be Pharaoh’s slaves.”
This was just one of the many types and shadows of the life of Yosef, which pointed to our Mashiach Yeshua (Jesus). When Yeshua gave up His own life on the stake (cross), those who believe in Him are saved from the eternal death, which entered in through the Garden, when Adam and Eve disobeyed YHVH's Mitzvot (Commandment) by eating from the Tree of Knowledge of good and evil. We again have been restored back to the Promise of eternal life, through the atoning work of Messiah Yeshua, where we are covered with His blood, just as the blood on the Mesuzah (the door post) protected the Israelite's from the Malak (Angel) of death, as he passed over (Pesach) wiping out the firstborn's in the land of Egypt. Yeshua Messiah also redeemed us back to the promise which was made at the Marriage Ceremony on Mount Sinai, where YHVH promised Israel that they would be His special treasured possession of all the earth and that Israel would be a Holy & Set-Apart Nation, A Kingdom of Kings and Priests, who would profess YHVH's Glory to the Nations (Gentiles), teaching them the difference between the Holy and the Unholy, The Clean and The Unclean, Righteousness and Unrighteous, teaching them the difference of being Set-Apart to YHVH and living of this world.
REDEEMED BY YESHUA'S DEATH AND COVERED BY HIS BLOOD:
Acts 20:28 "Be on guard for yourselves and for all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood.
1 Timothy 2:5-6 For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Messiah Yeshua, who gave Himself as a ransom for all, the testimony given at the proper time.
Titus 2:14 who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.
Hebrews 9:15 For this reason He is the mediator of a new covenant, so that, since a death has taken place for the redemption of the transgressions that were committed under the first covenant, those who have been called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.
2 Peter 2:1 But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.
1 Corinthians 7:23 You were bought with a price; do not become slaves of men.
1 Peter 1:18-19 knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Messiah.
Revelation 5:9 And they sang a new song, saying, "Worthy are You to take the book and to break its seals; for You were slain, and purchased for God with Your blood men from every tribe and tongue and people and nation.
Exodus 19:5-6 Now then, if you listen closely to My voice, and keep My covenant, then you will be My own treasure from among all people, for all the earth is Mine. 6 So as for you, you will be to Me a kingdom of kohanim and a holy nation.’ These are the words which you are to speak to Bnei-Yisrael.”
1 Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the praises of the One who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. 10 Once you were “not a people,” but now you are “God’s people.” You were shown “no mercy,” but now you have been shown “mercy.”
Isaiah 61:6 But you will be called the priests of the LORD; You will be spoken of as ministers of our God You will eat the wealth of nations, And in their riches you will boast.
Isaiah 66:21 "I will also take some of them for priests and for Levites," says the LORD.
Revelation 1:6 and He has made us to be a kingdom, priests to His God and Father--to Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.
Revelation 5:10 "You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to our God; and they will reign upon the earth."
Yeshua, Mediator of a Better Covenant
Hebrews 8:1 Now here is the main point being said. We do have such a Kohen Gadol, who has taken His seat at the right hand[a] of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens. 2 He is a priestly attendant of the Holies and the true Tent—which Adonai set up, not man. 3 For every kohen gadol is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices, so it is necessary for this One also to have something to offer. 4 Now if He were on earth, He would not be a kohen at all, since there are those who offer the gifts according to the Torah. 5 They offer service in a replica[c] and foreshadower of the heavenlies—one that is just as Moses was instructed by God when he was about to complete the tabernacle. For He says, “See that you make everything according to the design that was shown to you on the mountain.” 6 But now Yeshua has obtained a more excellent ministry, insofar as He is the mediator of a better covenant which has been enacted on better promises.
