Hi James,

You haven't understood the Gospel.

No one will triumph over their evil inclination by studying Torah. Unless "the love of God is shed abroad in your heart by the Ruach HaKodesn" (ROM 5:5), you will never overcome your pride, selfishness, and all the other evil.

If Torah study and practice would renew a person, why did Yeshua command us to be born again? If everything was fine with our spirit, why did Yeshua tell us to receive His Spirit? If we could change our sinful nature by our own efforts, why did Paul stress the new creation? It is He, who gives us a new heart. It happens the moment you receive the Holy Spirit, the moment the Law is written on your heart, i.e. the moment you enter the New Covenant.

All of the Nazarenes were born again (with the sign of tongues), and were changed by the Spirit from within, not by their own willpower.

You teach a Jewish heresy which has nothing to do with the true faith of the Nazarenes.

The Messiah and the Torah arebm both facets of the Memra/Logos (the Word).  I will write a more detailed answer soon.  But this is the bottom line.  You are thinking of the Torah and Messiah as if they are two differrnt things in opposition.  In reality the Torah and Messiah are one.

Your claim that I think they are in opposition is false too.

With a world full of distractions and false doctrines ( in all that i understand/taught/Revealed)   We/i must Study, Read The Holy Scriptures, so i dont ERR from THE WAY, that said i full agree with your statement that we must be born again, It happens the moment you receive the HOLY GHOST as you said, i am in full agreement and understanding brother...

As The GREAT GOD of Abraham said to Joshua to mediate on His Word day and night....

Yes, of course, we need to study the Scriptures as it will help us to get on the right track. But it will not change our sinful nature which is the root of our evil inclination. The heart needs to undergo the “circumcision without hands” through full water baptism, and after the foreskin of the heart has been removed, the reborn human spirit (indwelled by God’s Spirit) can take control of the soul, i.e. our intellect, emotion, etc. - that’s what changes a person from a sinner into a righteous person - clothed with Yeshua’s righteousness, not ones own. Union with God is the secret; as long as you are enslaved by HaSatan in sin, unregenerate, your Torah study won’t help you (it’ll only make you proud).

preach it brother... in all that i understand i agree, however i might clarify that it is, born from Above, BY GODS Mercy and HIS Will, not to split hairs, just so i dont agree it is automatic after water baptism. ( mans choice). Must Be GODS Mercy and Will, and come from a mans repented heart, and faith... in all that i understand.

i believe in all my heart that Jesus has taught me, The New Covenant is LOVE & FAITH, repentance towards GOD The Father, and To Follow His Commandments, To love Him and thy neighbor, ( no idols before The Great GOD of Abraham... and Faith in Jesus ( and all that this entails ( died on the Cross, Rose again 3rd day defeating death, Paid ransom, etc...)

if you have an idol ( anything you love more than JESUS) before GOD, you are led by the flesh, and will be Judged under the Ten Commandments, if you are LED BY GODS HOLY Spirit, you will be free from the Law of sin and death.. a choice, whom will we serve,,, i cannot earn anything all my efforts are as filthy rags before THE LORD. It is by GRACE that we are Saved, saved from what, we are saved from the rule and reign (power) of the evil one (satan)

i understand this isnt the common modern day belief, but the road is wide that leads to destruction, and narrow is the way that leads to LIFE and their be few there that find it..

a challenge, next time you read the New Testament, take a mental note of every time LOVE is mentioned with or without faith, or vice versa...

Good Luck on your Path, i will pray for you again,, as i already did...

as i heard a Christian say, i cannot tell you all the things i dont mean by what i have said

in love Bruce

Thanks Bruce, yes, it can be translated as "born from above".

All of the early Nazarenes were born from above - born of water[s] and Spirit, evidenced through the sign of tongues. This is usually explained away, which is why I wrote about it:

John 3:3 born again – The literal Aramaic reads #yrd Nm dlytm this phrase also appears in 1Kefa 1:23 and also reminds us of Mt. 19:28 which has the Hebrew phrase tyn#h hdlwtb ”in the second birth”. The reader may wish to look up the commentary on these passages.

To best understand this phase it is important to understand that the Tanak teaches that the nation Israel was born, died, and will live again. Isaiah describes the birth of Israel as follows:

Listen to me, O house of Jacob,
and all the remnant of the House of Israel,
you who have been borne by Me from birth,
and have been carried from the womb…
(Isaiah 46:3)

But from Israel’s birth Israel rebelled by violating Torah:

…and you have been called a rebel from birth…
…If only you had paid attention to My commandments!
Then your well-being would have been like a river,…
(Isaiah 48:8, 18)

Ezekiel writes:

4 And as for your nativity in the day you were born
your naval was not cut, neither were you washed in
water to supple you; you were not salted at all, nor
swaddled at all.
5 No eye pitied you, to do any of these unto you,
to have compassion upon you; but you were cast out
in the open field, to the lothing of your person, in the
day that you were born.
6 And when I passed by you, and saw you polluted
in my own blood, I said to you when you were in your
blood, Live; yes I said to you when you were in your
blood, Live.
(Ezek. 16:4-6)

After Israel’s birth Israel died from rejection of Torah but would live again! Israel would be born again!

In a similar way anyone who turns to Torah is “born again” in that they become like a new creation. The Talmud says "...a proselyte is like a newborn infant." (b.Yevamot 62a; see also b.Yevamot 48b).

3:5-6 born of water and spirit… born of flesh… born of spirit - Yeshua ties this in as an elaboration of the previous phrase "born again." Here Yeshua is referring to a Tanak passage (Ezekiel 36:24-28) which reads:

For I will take you from among the nations,
gather you out of all countries
and bring you into your own Land

Then I will sprinkle clean water on you,
and you shall be clean;
I will cleanse you from all your filthiness
and from all your idols.

I will give you a new heart
and put a new spirit within you;
I will take he heart of stone out of your flesh
and give you a heart of flesh.

I will put My Spirit within you
and cause you to walk in My statutes,
and you will keep My judgments and do them.

Then you shall dwell in the Land that
I gave to you fathers;
you shall be my people,
and I will be your Elohim.

What does it mean to be “born of water”? Water represents Torah as Isaiah writes:

Ho! Every one who thirsts, come to the waters;
And you who have no money come, buy and eat.
Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost.
(Isaiah 55:1)

Had Israel not rebelled from Torah after its birth its well being would have been like “a river” and “like the waves of the sea” (Is. 48:8, 17-19)

What does it mean “born of spirit” and “born of flesh” ? The Tanak foretells that that when Israel casts away its transgressions and makes for itself “a new heart and a new spirit” its death will end (Ezek. 18:29-32) and thus will Israel be reborn. Ezekiel also writes:

And I shall give them one heart,
and shall put a new spirit within them.
and I shall take the heart of stone out of her flesh
and give them a heart of flesh,
(Ezekiel 11:19)

When the Spirit of YHWH is received YHWH says:

I will put My Spirit within you
and cause you to walk in My statutes,
and you will keep My judgments and do them.
(Ezek. 36:27)

Enter the Kingdom of Eloah - the "Kingdom of Eloah" is a Tanak euphemism for the Kingdom of Israel (as in 1Chron. 28:5; 2Chron. 13:8). Thus in order to enter the kingdom and be regathered to the Land, the Jewish people would have to be born of water (made clean), born of flesh (receive a heart of flesh rather than stone) and receive the Spirit of God so as to walk in the statutes.
