PRAYER AND FASTING (1 Thessalonians 5:17 / Yeshayahu (Isaiah) 58

HOW TO PRAY AND WHAT TO PRAY FOR!
OPEN YOUR OWN WRITINGS (bible)
Qoheleth (Ecclesiastes, Convener) 5:1-3 > “Guard your steps when you go to the House of Elohim. And, draw near to listen than to give the sacrifice of fools: for they do not know that they do evil. Do not be hasty with YOUR mouth, and let not your heart hurry to bring forth a word before Elohim. For Elohim is in the heavens, and you on Earth, therefore let your words be few. For a dream comes through the greatness of a task, and a fool’s voice is known by his many words”.

Many people have overlooked exactly what the Scriptures are teaching us and continue in disobedience to the Word by following the traditions of men. MattithYahu (Matthew) 6:5-8 > “And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the congregations and on the corners of the streets, to be seen of men. Truly, I say to you, they have their reward. But you, when you pray, go into your room, and having shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place. And your Father who sees in secret shall reward you openly. And when praying, do not keep babbling like the gentiles. For they think that they shall be heard for their many words. Therefore do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.

As you continue to read the whole context ~ verses 9-13 specifically and clearly instructs us how to pray. Just exactly what are people trying to do? We all may have been caught up in these man-made situations, concepts, customs, rituals, and traditions ~ but His mercy and grace has brought us to the Truth and obedience to the Torah. What is amazing and even bizarre, is the fact that the Truth has been there, in the Writings, yet many seem to be hypnotized by Salvaging Wolves in sheep clothing.

Yeshayahu (Isaiah) 1:18, which states, “Come Let us reason together says the Elohim”. This scripture specifically tells us to use the mind that we have, for we are made in His image, and with prayer to be secure in what is right or wrong, we must totally rely on the Scriptures, because the Father reveals Himself in them and shows us how we must live.

Romans 8:26-28 > And in the same way the Spirit does help in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray, but the Spirit Himself pleads our case for us with groanings unutterable. And He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the set-apart ones according to Elohim. And we know that all matters work together for good to those who love Elohim, to those who are called according to His purpose.

1 Thessalonians 5:17-19 > “Pray without ceasing, in all circumstances give thanks, for this is the desire of Elohim in Messiah Yahushua for you. Do not quench the Spirit. Verse 18 answers verse 17 and verse 19 coincides with Romans 8:26-28 > “For we do not know what we should pray, but the Spirit Himself pleads our case for us with groanings unutterable.”

Shhhhhhhhhhh and allow Him to answer your prayer. Sometimes HE says NO! ~ because ~ Faith is the substance of things hoped for , the evidence of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1), not begging, and rambling on and on.

Ya’aqob (James) 4:3-4 states: “You desire, and do not have. You murder, and are jealous, and are unable to obtain. You strive and fight, and you do not possess, because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask evilly, in order to spend it on your pleasures.”

Prayer changes things, but it does not change Yah’s Plans. If you were to pray for what person to vote for, would it be answered or would the spirit lead you to a certain candidate. The answer is “NO”. Some of course would disagree. But ask yourself this question: If you felt that he led you to a certain candidate, president, senator, etc., and he lost, then was your prayer in vain or to a certain political party and they lost, or if either one won, then was your prayer in vain? Just because the majority of fellow believers believe that a certain candidate is qualified spiritually to lead the nation doesn’t mean your prayer was answered, and certainly doesn’t mean that person is qualified.

You have the right to vote and the free will to choose, but you do not have the right as an individual to go against, argue or debate the will of the Father, even though He allows you to choose, He does not send you a message stating who to vote for. What if the other person won? For example: Turn your pages to Matithyahu (Matthew) 26:39-44. Notice that the savior in his darkest hour as a human with human feelings prayed to have the event of being tortured and put to death pass from Him, but He said let your will be done. This is how we should pray and trust the Father for answers.

Just because one candidate seems to be better than the other, doesn’t mean either one will win or lose because you prayed. Matthew 6:10 states “Your kingdom come”. “Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven”. Not your vote, not your opinion, not your will, and certainly not a prayer for who you should vote for or not, but the Heavenly Father’s will. So we have the free will to choose, vote, voice opinions, but not the power to change Yah’s Plans. Our prayers should be humble and specifically for spiritual and material help, not for political issues. When the savior was asked “Who should we pay tribute to, Yah or Caesar?” He said bring me a penny and asked whose subscription is on it, they said Caesar’s and He said render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s and unto Yah what is Elohim’s”. > Matithyahu (Matthew) 22:17-22. No matter who is in political office, we as believers must pray for them and consider the fact that “His desire be done”. It is not his desire for evil to reign, but his plans to permit it is to be considered and realized.

Turn your pages and read Dani’ĕl (Daniel) 2:36-38; 4:17. After reading you see where Yah had given Nebuchadnezzar a kingdom, power, and strength, and glory. But, was it his will? “NO” It was His plan. Nebuchadnezzar was a wicked King, whose kingdom consisted of false religion, worshipping of idols and false elohims (gods). Daniel was held captive there and became a great ruler just as Joseph was over Egypt. Ask yourself this question: If you were living then and Daniel and Nebuchadnezzar were candidates for election, who would you vote for. Of course Daniel. Yet Daniel would have lost because of Yah’s plan, but not of His will. His will is that all would serve Him, but he allows and permits evil for a purpose and plan. He allows man due to the fall to see if he can govern himself and in due time man will see that he must give honor and worship to the Creator.

Lets say a PRAYER together: >

“Let your will be done “O heavenly Father, no matter who I vote for or who may or will win”. For I love you and will not submit to any government’s secular desire of this world over the coming government that you will establish through your Son and our Savior upon His return to this Earth. I will obey your word and subject myself to the higher authority (government)>(pay taxes, vote, voice opinions, witness your good news (gospel) and pray as you have instructed me to in Matthew 6:5-13. Therefore, I will not be persuaded by the opinion of man and of my own thinking, but let “Your desire be done”.

Daniel 4:17 > "This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the command by the word of the set-apart ones, so that the living know that the Most High is ruler in the reign of men, and gives it to whomever He wishes, and sets over it the lowest of men."

At the beginning of the United States’ invasion of Iraq ~ President Bush stated that the Almighty is on our side because of freedom and Osama Bin Laden said that the Almighty is on their side because of Abraham. During the campaign of 2004, John Kerry said that we need to be sure that we are own God’s side. Even though Kerry’s statement was more humble to Elohim’s will ~ neither Kerry nor Bush are chosen to establish the kingdom of Elohim on this Earth ~ only Yahushua Messiah will solve the problems that engulf mankind, due to sin! Matthew 13:24-30 Read it! And see His plan. So we as believers have the free will to choose a candidate not only for his moral values, but also his political values, but not through prayer. Our prayers are to be recited asking for spiritual guidance in our personal lives and towards others and their needs. The whole point is that our Creator is coming to restore the earth. It is not our task to “fix” man’s kingdom, or fight it, change it, argue about its economics, lack of moral leadership, or any of that. Conquering, overpowering, killing, dividing, controlling ~ these are not things we do, but they are things which men ruling themselves do. Lies have become “mixed” into civil government as well as moral government (Church, pulpit), yet trusted in as truth.

All through Scripture, prayers were answered through a few words and sometimes one word. Today, we are so weak that many prayers are not answered with a thousand words. So how do we fix this Spiritual Condition ?

FASTING

Should we practice fasting in the Congregation?
What can one profit from fasting?

As we consider these questions, we must first understand what fasting is. In the dictionary we find that fasting is defined as “eating sparingly” or “abstaining from some or all foods”. Scriptures indicate many examples where individuals fasted. In these examples we see that the individuals were putting away personal desires in order to focus specifically on the spiritual. In the Pre-Messianic (Old Testament) Writings, fasting also included the idea of “afflicting the soul”. These were times when a person would allow himself to become totally consumed in religious things, therefore putting away the desires of the flesh, such as food. These periods of time were usually specified by the individual or groups, and a certain amount of time was set aside for the fast. Often individuals would also fast because of sorrow over sin or the mourning of a loss.

In Mattithyahu (Matthew) Chapters 5 & 6, Yahushua Messiah gave what is commonly called, the Sermon on the Mount. In His teaching we see that Yahushua gave references to giving, prayer, and fasting. We should also acknowledge that Messiah spoke of the hypocrisy in relationship to giving, prayer, and fasting. In Mattithyahu (Matthew) 6:16, Yahushua said, “And when you fast, do not be sad-faced like the hypocrites. For they disfigure their faces so that they appear to be fasting to men. Truly, I say to you, they have their reward.” You must read the whole context; because many doctrines are taught in various assemblies that fasting is unnecessary, and is not important as giving and prayer. When we consider the true uses of fasting mentioned in Scripture, it was basically engaged in at times when someone needed to draw closer to Elohim, thus putting aside the things of this world. The Savior Himself, being in human form, was led by the Spirit into the wilderness and fasted 40 days and 40 nights.

Romans 14 is specifically about Fasting and is rendered in short form as: If a person did not choose to FAST, then that’s fine. If a person DID choose to FAST, that’s fine too.

There is no command in Scripture how long and how much we should fast, but it is commanded and taught at Mattithyahu (Matthew) 6:17,18: FASTING > “But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, so that you do not appear to men to be fasting, but to your Father who is in the secret place. And your Father who sees in secret shall reward you openly.” GIVING >Luke 6:38 says, “Give, and it shall be given you. A good measure, pressed down and shaken together and running over shall be put into your lap. For with the same measure with which you measure, it shall be measured back to you.” PRAYING > Yahuchanon (John) 14:13 says, “And whatever you ask in My Name, that I shall do, in order that the Father might be esteemed in the Son.”

What does the parable about Messiah’s disciples fasting mean? > Mattithyahu(Matthew) 9:14-17 / Mark 2:18-22 / Luke 5:33-39: Why should you add to what you already have? You cannot add or increase power from Elohim, if you already have it among you or with you. You may become selfish or start a conflict within the realm of your spirituality. Messiah was a direct and present fullness of Elohim in the midst of His disciples. Fasting brings spiritual power. So to mix old with the new brings ruins. It will cause division. These passages (parable) basically state, leave well enough alone, until it may be taken or some strength begins to lack, then fresh with fresh, new with new will prosper. But if you are already satisfied and filled with what you need, then don’t seek something abstract to be added, if not necessary.
In Verse 15 of Matthew 9, the Savior specifically stated that “the days shall come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they shall fast.”

At Matthew 17:15-21, the disciples due to their unbelief was unable to cast a demonic spirit from a young man. Yahushua, not only advised them about their unbelief, but also informed them that in such cases results come through prayer and fasting. After reading and reviewing these Scriptures, it is evident that fasting is just as important as giving and praying. If we are to keep His sayings, then we are commanded to fast according to Scripture. Someone may say or ask, how, when I work most of the time or just don’t have the time?

Matthew 4:1, 2 > Then Yahushua was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tried by the devil. And after having fasted forty days and forty nights...........................

Matthew 6:16-18 > “And WHEN YOU FAST, do not be sad faced like the hypocrites. For they disfigure their faces so that they appear to be fasting to men. Truly, I say to you, they have their reward. “But you, WHEN YOU FAST, anoint your head and wash your face, so that you do not appear to men to be FASTING, but to your Father who is in the secret place. And your Father who sees in secret shall REWARD you openly.”

Matthew 17:14-21 > “And when they came to the crowd, a man came up to Him, kneeling down to Him and saying, “Master, have compassion on my son, for he is an epileptic and suffers badly, for he often falls into the fire and often into the water. “And I brought him to Your taught ones, but they were unable to heal him.”And Yahushua answering, said, “O generation, unbelieving and perverted, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring him here to Me.” And Yahushua rebuked the demon, and he came out of him. And the child was healed from that hour. Then the taught ones came to Yahushua by Himself and said, “Why were we unable to cast him out?”And Yahushua said to them, “Because of your unbelief, for truly, I say to you, if you have belief as a mustard seed, you shall say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it shall move. And no matter shall be impossible for you.“But this kind does not go out except through PRAYER and FASTING.”

Moses was on the mountain with Elohim for 40 days (TWICE)

Yahushua (Joshua) was also there for 40 days and 40 nights located at Shemoth (Exodus) 32:17

Shemoth (Exodus) 24:18 > And Moses went into the midst of the cloud, and gat him up into the mount: and Moses was in the mount forty days and forty nights.

Exodus 34:28-29 > And he was there with the Master forty days and forty nights; he did neither eat bread, nor drink water. And he wrote upon the tables the words of the covenant, the ten commandments.

Deuteronomy.10:10 > Now I had stayed on the mountain forty days and nights, as I did the first time, and Yahuah listened to me at this time also. It was not his will to destroy you.

Moses' face shone after the 40 days on the mountain.
Exodus 34:29 >  And it came to pass, when Moses came down from mount Sinai with the two tables of testimony in Moses' hand, when he came down from the mount, that Moses wist not that the skin of his face shone while he talked with him.

Yeshayahu (Isaiah) 58:3-12 > They say, ‘Why have we fasted, and You have not seen? Why have we afflicted our beings, and You took no note?’ “Look, in the day of your fasting you find pleasure, and drive on all your labourers.“Look, you fast for strife and contention, and to strike with the fist of wrongness. You do not fast as you do this day, to make your voice heard on high. “Is it a fast that I have chosen, a day for a man to afflict his being? Is it to bow down his head like a bulrush, and to spread out sackcloth and ashes? Do you call this a fast, and an acceptable day to Yahuah? “Is this not the fast that I have chosen: to loosen the tight cords of wrongness, to undo the bands of the yoke, to exempt the oppressed, and to break off every yoke? “Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, and that you bring to your house the poor who are cast out; when you see the naked, and cover him, and not hide yourself from your own flesh. “Then your light would break forth like the morning, your healing spring forth speedily. And your righteousness shall go before you, the esteem of Yahuah would be your rear guard. “Then, when you call, Yahuah would answer; when you cry, He would say, ‘Here I am.’ “If you take away the yoke from your midst, the pointing of the finger, and the speaking of unrighteousness, if you extend your being to the hungry and satisfy the afflicted being, then your light shall dawn in the darkness, and your darkness be as noon. “Then YHWH/Yahuah would guide you continually, and satisfy your being in drought, and strengthen your bones. And you shall be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail. “And those from among you shall build the old waste places. You shall raise up the foundations of many generations. And you would be called the Repairer of the Breach, the Restorer of Streets to Dwell In.

This is when your obedience comes into play. Anyone with common sense knows that you cannot fast everyday of your life and we are not commanded to do so. But in Acts 27:9, we discover the apostle Paul along with the congregation keeping and observing one of the many Annual Set-apart Days of the Fast. Yahushua Messiah observed them, as did the apostolic assembly. There is no mention that Yahushua ever sacrificed animals, and therefore we may say that He observed the Set-apart days as we do today – by teaching, learning, and worshipping. HE IS OUR EXAMPLE. We offer spiritual worship rather than ceremonial offerings of the Old Covenant. Just as they remained obedient in observing Set-apart days or time periods, we as believers and followers of the Word should also set-apart a time for fasting to draw closer to the Father and up-build our Spiritual purpose > Also see Zekaryah (Zechariah) 7:4-7

If an individual or group is willing to put aside fleshly desires in order to focus specifically on the Spiritual, what greater devotion could one give to Elohim? Fasting is a time to reverence and honor our Elohim, to be encouraged in His Word, and in our devotion to Him. At the same time, keep in mind that it should not be done in order to be seen of others or to prove we are good Nazarenes. If we fast, it should be done out of a sincere heart and a clear conscience. Fasting is setting aside time to give ourselves totally to Yahuah; time specifically allotted by us to grow closer to our Creator. The greatest lesson we can learn from fasting is that we all need to give more specified time to the Elohim. The more we study and dwell on His Word, the stronger we will become and the more we will accomplish for His purpose and will.

The Day of Atonement, Yom Kippur, is a day of restraint and prayer in memory of Yahushua’s sacrifice for us. The Scripture indicates that it is a time when we must afflict our souls by fasting, Yeshayahu (Isaiah) 58. We remember that it was for our sins that He died because it was the sins of the world that killed Him, Yeshayahu (Isaiah) 53:8.

Review > Psalms 35:13, 14 / Matthew 9:14,15 / Mark 2:18-22 / Luke 5:35 / Acts 13:2,3 / 1 Corinthians 7:5 / 2  Corinthians 6:1-5

So we are “called-out” of the kingdoms of men altogether. If we remain ignorant, we will be found participating in a paradigm (model, process) of traditions that date all the way back to Babylon, the head or beginning. So now it doesn’t matter what Yahuah’s will or plan is; or of His Son, our Savior, according to some people’s actions. Many are actually meeting in their assemblies, demanding, commanding, and just down right disrespectfully telling the Elohim our Creator that you are going to do it our way. Many even go as far to set a goal with numbers of unbelievers that they will witness to or bring to salvation.

This type of programming by the merchants (false prophets) has caused many to become discouraged > Matthew 23:1-4 says, “Then Yahushua spoke to the crowds and to His taught ones, saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit on the seat of Moses. Therefore, whatever they say to you to guard, guard and do. But do not do according to their works, for they say, and do not do. For they bind heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on men’s shoulders, but with their finger they do not wish to move them.” Scriptures indicate that many are called, but few are chosen. Narrow is the way that leads to life and few that find it. And our Savior stated that, “No one can come to Me unless the Father draws him” > Matthew 7:13,14; 13:11-17 and Yahuchanon (John) 6:44,65.

We must witness out of love for the Father through the obedience of His Word. As you study Scripture, you will discover a plausible reason for the failure of Christedom/Christianity to convert the world. You will come to realize that it is not the Creator’s will for the world to be converted in this age by man’s efforts. Yahushua’s instructions to be witnesses “unto the uttermost part of the Earth” (Acts 1:8) included no assurance that the testimony would be received and acted upon. Rather, now it is understood that it is Elohim’s will in this age to select out of the world only a small company of believers, the true Congregation Class (Messanics-Messianites-Natsarim-Nazarenes), to become associated with His Son Yahushua Messiah. > Matthew 7:13,14/Luke 12:32 Also there will be a resurrection of the dead, both of the righteous and the unrighteous (Acts 24:15) whereas Revelation 20 depicts the era where all will be given the opportunity to hear the Good News (Gospel) in its true meanings and taught properly and correctly.

WE WERE COMMANDED TO PRAY THE MODEL PRAYER LOCATED AT MATTHEW 6:9-13

Father, “Let Your Desire Be Done” ~ “Let Your Reign Come”
